Responsibilities:
  1. To develop integrated navigation to the Library's digital resources.
  2. To provide users with a seamless approach to discovery and use of databases, electronic journals and books, and locally digitized materials
  3. Define discovery tools that enable users to search across certain diverse and distributed websites, library catalogs, and databases of information resources to retrieve and integrate the results in a single presentation.
  4. Plan Metalib implementation with the goal of making digital resources more visible and easier to find within the Library Web sites, especially including the Aleph catalog and the locally digitized collections (e.g., PALMM and Special Collections projects).
  5. Consider and build on existing personalized features (e.g., Aleph E-shelf, UF Portal, personal signon features in commercial databases) to provide users with the capability to create personalized views of the knowledge base.
  6. Lead library-wide discussions that re-vision access.
  7. Define enhanced services needed to support geospatial data.
  8. Recommend on implementation strategies.

The Task Force should consult, as necessary, with appropriate library staff at the Health Sciences Center Library and the Legal Information Center, as well as with the Chairs of Departments and other committees to be affected by theimplementation. It should interview individuals currently responsible for access to electronic resources and supporting instructional programs. The Task Force should also consult as needed with appropriate staff of the Florida Center for Library Automation's Digital Library Services.

With this decision, the UF Metalib portal will go live Summer 2005. The group will fine tune the implementation over the Summer and plan for full implementation for the beginning of Fall 2005 semester.

Minutes:
Minutes should be posted on the Task Force web site and distributed to all committee members, the Director for Technology Services, and the Heads of the Cataloging, Digital Services and Systems departments promptly following each meeting. A draft agenda for the next meeting should be circulated with the Task Force` minutes.
