Dean’s Message – 03/29/24

Dean Judy

Welcome to the University of Florida and to the George A. Smathers Libraries! We are happy to see you on campus and online. The Smathers Libraries remain busy as we continue to serve as a conduit for success at the University of Florida. Our six campus branches proceed to expand their collections and services to meet the changing needs of our users. The Libraries ignite creativity and curiosity through our resources, including access to tools and opportunities for collaboration. For users, whether on-campus or remote, digital and physical collections ensure that information and assistance are available when and where needed.

In the 22’-23’ year, we debuted 12 new physical exhibits across six branches and five online exhibits. These included items from more than 20 collections. Renovations were completed in the Marston Science Library, which provided silent, independent study space and created a new “Makerspace” for hands-on making experiences for students. We are excited to participate in the ubiquitous world of AI with our new librarian, Borui Zhang, who specializes in artificial intelligence.

As always, we continue to serve each and every Gator student, faculty and staff member, community visitors and researchers from across the globe. All of the libraries and collections have new and updated web sites and we invite you to visit and explore them to locate our resources and services. You can begin at our home page ( and find specific resources and services by using the top blue navigation bar or the three horizontal “hamburger” navigation bars on the top right of your small screen under the Find, Libraries & Collections, and Contact Us menus.

We welcome your comments and questions and look forward to hearing from you.
