Computers and Equipment

All computers in the Smathers Libraries are managed by UF Academic Technology (AT), providing students and faculty access to an extensive list of software.

If you have problems with a public computer or would like to request a software program that is not available on the aforementioned list, you may submit a Help Request to UF-AT.

Computers

We have computers in all libraries and branches. Library workstations provide multi-language support through the Microsoft Keyboard IME extensions.

Printing

Printers are available in all library branches (except Maps and the Grand Reading Room) and can be accessed by current UF students, faculty, and staff. Instructions at print.at.ufl.edu

3D Printing

Available at Marston Science Library Makerspace. This service is available to students, faculty, staff, and community members for the creation of physical objects from digital models.

Marston Makerspace

Marston Makerspace provides shared equipment and workspace for creative projects and collaboration. Visit them in the basement of Marston Science Library, just across from the elevators. View their full list of equipment, tools and supplies.

Marston Makerspace is open to everyone. Access is not restricted based on major, departmental affiliation, lab enrollment, completion of training modules, etc and they welcome both academic and hobby projects. The space is staffed and supervised during Open Lab; no booking or appointment necessary — just walk in and get started!

Adaptive/Assistive Equipment

The libraries have a variety of assistive software and technologies. The following adaptive/assistive equipment is available at limited locations. Assistance is available at each public service desk. Computer use accessibility aids are available at all computer workstations. Please visit our Accessibility Services page for additional information.

  • 1 Topaz Desktop Magnifier
  • The Accessibility Studio, located on the 3rd floor of Library West, hosts a diverse set of resources to improve accessibility to library materials, and includes access to Kurzweil software

Marston Science Library

  • 2 KIC Bookeye Scanners
  • L136 Conference and Visualization Room: 1 height-adjustable table for wheelchair accessibility

Video Recording Studio (One Button Studio)

Available to Library West for UF students only via online reservation. One Button Studio has auto-record camera equipment, lighting, audio, and a green screen option bundled in a single setup that allows students to quickly and easily record videos. Required: students must bring a FAT-32 formatted USB drive (min. 8GB). Microfilm, microfiche, and microprint readers are available wherever microform materials are located.

Library West

  • There are microform readers on the third floor (Room 339) at Library West. A key is needed for access – please visit our Circulation Desk on the second floor or call 352-273-2525 for accessibility assistance.

Scanning

A small number of scanners are available in Library West, Smathers Library, Marston Science Library, the Architecture and Fine Arts Library, the Education Library, and the Health Science Center Library. Imaging software varies, depending on the location.

Library West

  • 1st Floor: 1 KIC Bookeye Scanner, located outside the double elevators
  • 3rd Floor: 1 KIC Bookeye Scanner, located in the print release station alcove
  • 6th Floor (Restricted to Graduate Students): 1 oversize format scanner, located in the northwest corner at the Multimedia Production, Printing, and Scanning Station
